Howard - Started all of this, AKA fatgit
I'm 22 years young and hadn't ridden a bike in 5/6 years before March when I bought one to do the London - Cambridge, I really enjoyed it and like a challenge so decided to aim for the London - Paris (I don't do things by halves!).
Since the London - Cambridge I have also done the Oxford - Cambridge and a couple of club runs with Cambridge Cycling Club. |

Clive - The webmaster, AKA cjw

I work in the nuclear industry as a programme manager for decommissioning nuclear reactors, in particular Bradwell and Sizewell.
At the moment I ride 100 - 120 miles per week of which my Sunday ride is over 50 miles. Early October completed the Blenheim Palace Sportive (60 mile route) finished about half way down the field - but am getting better Wink
Planning a few more sportives in the next month or so and have a training schedule that increases by about 5% every 2 weeks |

Chris - AKA kayakerchris
51 years old, married with two boys at University. One son kayaks and the other fences.
I am trying to lose weight and get fit hence the cycling. Longest ride was the C2C last year which was two days of 70 miles. Some serious climbs. I was knackered so have added some climbs into my commute and the turbo arrives tomorrow for some interval sessions.
Really looking forward to meeting some of you in London.

Dan - AKA Skippy - Support
Hi, My dad (John) asked me to be a Support driver, but insurance terms prohibit it due to being under 25.
I am 22 and was studying to be a Surveyor until I got made redundant in January, so am now seeking alternatives.
I'm going along to help Chappi get everything organised with regards to food, directions, breakdowns and take some of the photo's and videos.
All of the above is providing I am not propping Chappi up from falling asleep after too many beers.
Why are there no girls riding as I would like to help them with their breakdowns.
Oh and about the moustache...Dad offered to take a picture for my permit, but I was never available so eventually I asked him to sort it sohe did! I won't ever ask him again!. |

Lee - AKA online as 'Leesy'.
Hi, I'm Lee and I'm from the North East of England, yes that place near Scotland and almost as cold !!
To be precise I'm from South Shields (yup where that X-Factor winning kid was from and before anyone asks no I don't know him !!), however I now live and work behind enemy lines in Newcastle.
I am a devout Sunderland AFC fan after all !!
I'm 37 yrs young and just taken up road cycling this year (due to a MTB back injury last year and pressure from pals who are roadies).
Looking to do this as a personal challenge for 2010 as I've fell for road cycling in a big way and to also raise some cash for charity....
Workwise i'm the New Business & Retail Development Manager for one of Europe's largest packaging manufacturer's and travel extensively with the role (although I live in Newcastle I tend to split my time between West London, Somerset and Manchester) working with blue-chip companies and most of the UK retailers at corporate level.
Currently unmarried and with partner (Judith) we own a mad Westie called Fergus.
Really looking to the ride with some really nice guys, and being the token Northerner !! (accent is not too bad honest...) Oh lastly the pic was taken in Rome enjoying a cheeky red. |

Lee - AKA Lee_Dalton
30 years old and a Sales Rep. I live just outside Cambridge in a modern town/village combo called Cambourne.Good for cycling as its on the top of a hill (okay not a real hill, but its 100meters above Cambridge), so its always uphill on the way home.
I'm married to Helen, will be 9 glorious years in May. No kids, just some fish. Wanted to do London to Paris but was put off by the charity rides wanting enough sponsorship to send a man to the moon, so when I saw this it was ideal.
Got my first proper road bike in July last year, up to that point had been doing up to 100mile rides on my Spesh Hybrid, which I rode yesterday for the first time in 7 months.... aaaargh, it was like riding the titanic. Heavy, slow, weird, and just unresponsive. Got on my nice lightweight, nimble Trek 1.7 this morning to ride into work. By jigger I knew it was fresh outside, but I had actually got frost on my gloves and sleeves by the time I got to work!
Last summer I was doing up to 50 miles on my way to work in the morning, but only did 1 century, so I need to ramp up the miles a bit as we head towards June. Have had rollers and turbo out a little over winter, but I just cant seem to motivate myself to ride on either of them for any great length of time. I don't think it helps that I overheat within minutes of getting on either of them. Well, here's hoping that we all have a damn good laugh and enjoy ourselves, that's what its all about after all. |

Ian - AKA 'Twitchy'
Hi, My name is Ian I am 57 years old and come from Tiverton in Devon and work for South West Water as a plant operator.
Married with 2 Children who have long flown the nest and 7 Grandchildren. I have 2 Bikes, Litespeed Firenze that I use for most of my training winter and summer, change to lighter wheels for summer use. My best bike is a Specialized Roubaix Pro that I keep for sportives and dry days.
My biggest ride/s would be Lands end- John O'Groats about 15 years ago. I set of on my own with the bare minimum on a carrier, just started the second day when I met up with another Cyclist who was also doing the end to end, his partner was driving the backup vehicle(Camper)and they invited me to travel with them, brilliant lovely people called Chris and Sally from Hereford. we did it in 8 days never felt tired, I suppose it must have been the adrenalin. The day after when it was all over I felt like sleeping for a week!!
Two months after completing the end to end I got talked into entering a 12 hour time trial in South Wales. I managed 216 miles, never again.
Cheers Ian. |

Rob - AKA Chappi - The Driver
Hi Lads, Thought it about time I introduced myself. My names is Rob, AKA Chappi, I'm 25, single and always on the look out for a bit of skirt!
For my sins I am driving this lot from London to Paris, not sure how I am going to do that as I am a devout Alcoholic and have never read a map in my life and don't intend to start bad habits now!
Most of the time I arrive by pure luck, as my eyes are most of the time closed or otherwise distracted by a bit of skirt.
I work for the West Cornwall Pasty Company at their Shrewsbury Branch, you can tell by my waist that I eat a few too many of them.
I'm really looking forward to all the free beer that the lads have bribed me with after a long day in the minibus feeling all the lads pain and suffering...yep it is going to be a hard life for me.
Any hows, here's to the ride....hic you never know I might do it myself next year....hic! |

Chris W - AKA themightyw
Hi
My name's Chris, I'm 34 and I I live in St Andrews with my wife and two beautiful young daughters. I decided a couple of years ago that I needed to shake off 10 years of laziness, and finally get fit. I hadn't ridden a since I was a spotty teenager, but bought a basic road bike at the end of 2008. My first big 'test' was cycling from Edinburgh to St Andrews last year (100km). Loved it - though I'll admit I found it tough (do you know how disturbing it is to be surrounded by a load of blokes talking about lycra and leg shaving?!) - and decided to sign up for something ludicrous for this year to really challenge me.
I work for a Prudential in their Scottish office, managing the Online team, and I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the best cycling countryside in the whole of the UK.
I'm cycling to raise money for two fantastic charities - Help the Aged, and Action on Addiction.

Mark - AKA as Yorkie
Hi I'm Mark, nearly 27 and from Gods own county of South Yorkshire and the steel city of Sheffield.
Despite my quite frightening passion for Yorkshire I lost most of my accent when I joined Derbyshire constabulary as a cop 6 years ago.
I now live outside South Normanton, Derbyshire in a new housing estate.
Got into cycling as a result of a football accident and now I'm constantly skint but the proud owner of my own Pinarello Princess.
The idea of L2P has always got me and doing it with other like mined folk and arranging it ourselves has added to the fun. I even was trusted to have everyone's money!!!
Everyone seems like a top bloke, even fungus.
So that's me, Mark, king of the gingers, lord of the dance and occasional life model to the stars. |

Mark - AKA FastboyNOT
Mark - AKA FastboyNOT
Hi, I live in Penkridge - Staffs. and I honestly don't know how I got hooked into this.
I'm 25 and work as a Telecoms consultant.
I used to be a lardy 16 odd stone, until I started training for this ride. I like my beer a bit too much but Oldtimer (Future Father-in-law) has put a stop to that now (grrr) so I can only get drunk when he isn't about.
I have been going old with Oldtimers daughter Laura for about 4 years now.
Used to cycle a bit as a lad, and have found it quite easy to get back into it. I'm now about 11 stone and quite fit, hills are easy now especially after a winter of training on the rollers.
I love to think I have a good sense of humour.
I'm looking forward to this ride amongst good company and a little pain! Bring it on! after all it's all for a good cause anyway. |

Dan - AKA Dan_K
My name's Dan from Croydon, South London.
I'm 28 years old with a girlfriend and two children whom I adore and, I'm a cycloholic.
It all started on a trip to the Peak District for some mountain biking, 12 miles in the rain over a damp, boggy patch of rock and I was suffering like a dog in a Korean restaurant.
I vowed never to get dirty with a bike again but then the bad memories faded and I returned.
The suffering drew me back in. I went from mountain biking to road biking and learnt how to suffer more, for longer. The pain becomes addictive to the point where I look forward to it.
On a constant drive to bury myself in anguish, to see how much misery my body can take, I stumbled across a thread on Bike Radar, promoting a no frills, supported trip to Paris, where tightwads can unite in riding their bodies into the ground for personal gratification, charity or just because they've got nothing better to do.
I signed up immediately. This is going to be epic.

Jeremy - AKA Jezzery
I'm Jeremy and I am 35 years old and live in N.London.
I have been cycling about 5 years, but have only recently got into it in the last year as I mainly used it as an exercise on the old rollers.
I recently gave up smoking about 6 months ago and decided to take it more seriously as a means to take my mind off the habit - it worked and I have found a new love in my life.
The biggest ride I have done is the Blenhiem Palace sportive which was just over 100 miles (absolutely knackered after.) Really enjoyed the sense of achievement
I live in sin with my partner Mary who I share two lovely children with - one girl aged 6, and a boy aged 3. I also have a dog called Otto
I make a living by juggling a teaching job (teaching kids how to make music in recording studios) and making dance music in my own small music studio.
I am doing the L2P as I was looking for a new challenge and wanted to break out of my comfort zone, meeting new people on the way. |
